Gary Smith

Gary Smith is Chief Transformation & Technology Officer for NEP Group. He joined the company in June 2023 and is responsible for leading all aspects of NEP’s transformation through 2024 to reimagine and align the company’s business and technology strategy and structure to meet the needs of a changing media industry.

Gary is an accomplished executive with a passion for leading companies through change by identifying and adopting successful strategies, creating high-performing teams and championing the effective use of technology. Prior to joining NEP, Gary trained as an engineer and brings a wealth of experience across multiple markets, three continents, and businesses of all sizes under both corporate and private equity ownership.

Among his previous leadership roles, Gary served as CEO for Sports Information Services, UK, where he successfully repositioned the company to profitably sustain its core business and to evolve an internal broadcast services operation into a connectivity business, which was subsequently acquired by NEP and is now NEP Connect. Gary was also President of Bell ExpressVu, where he returned Bell ExpressVu to growth and profit, creating and implementing a strategy to revive uncompetitive products. Prior to that, he served as Director, Sky Subscriber Services Ltd, part of the world-renown Sky television business, where he successfully launched new interactive technology, improved the customer experience and significantly improved the economics of the company’s interactive services.

Gary received his Bachelor of Science, Civil Engineering, degree from Imperial College in London, a Master of Business Administration from Ivey Business School at Western University, and a Chartered Director certification from McMaster University.

With a passion for helping businesses succeed, Gary is an “Executive in Residence” supporting local businesses through Accelerate Okanagan, and a Senior Advisor at Osborne Interim Management. A resident of Okanagan in the Canadian province of British Columbia, he is an enthusiastic cyclist, Nordic skier, motorcyclist and is currently on a mission to learn to play the piano.
